The Special Court has left the leader of Shijak's group, Astrit Avdylaj, in prison.

GJKKO has left in force the "prison arrest" security measure for the head of Shijak Astrit Avdylaj's group.

During today's session, Avdylaj did not give any statement.

Astrit Avdylaj was arrested on June 29 in his apartment. Footage of his handcuffing was also published earlier. During the arrest, a pistol-type firearm was also seized from the 50-year-old.

Avdylaj was declared wanted by SPAK, within the "Revanshi" operation, where several criminal groups were hit and dozens of exponents of crime were arrested. It is suspected that he helped Ervis Marinaj and former Socialist MP Arben Ndokë, providing the conditions for Durim Bami's murder.

Communications in the "Sky" application showed how Astrit Avdylaj talked with Ndoka and offered to help him in the plan for the physical elimination of Durim Bami. Avdylaj sends his nephew Aldo Avdylaj and Arben Merkur to Ndoka to realize the goal.

Who is Astrit Avdylaj?

Astrit Avdylaj is known as the leader of Shijak's gang and he has been accused of drugs, murder, prostitution, but also of strong political ties, together with his brother Altin Avdylaj.

The mass operation of October 2018 "Vol-Vo 4" arrested 22 people. According to the Court of Serious Crimes, it turned out that there were connections between some of the most prominent criminal organizations in the country, which trafficked cocaine and heroin from Latin America to the countries of the European Union, led by Shijaku and Maminasi, while for cannabis they were engaged and other criminal organizations. The Avdylaj gang in Shijak cooperated with the Bajra gang in Shkodër and the Ndokaj gang in Lezhë.

At their head was the well-known Astrit Avdyli or otherwise Astrit Balliu, who was involved in drug trafficking from Albania to Italy. Investigations on this matter have been started since December 2016.

The criminal journey of the Avdylas started in the 90s, where Dritan Avdyli, the first cousin of Astri Avdyli, was shot dead in 1996.

Astrit Avdyli, the son of Dritan's uncle, previously convicted of prostitution in Italy, took revenge by killing the person who ambushed Dritan in the center of Shijak. The revenge did not stop there, as Astrit's brother Shkëlqimi killed Durim Kusi in Tirana.

Other family members, such as Jasmin Avdyli or Flamur Avdyli, are connected to the world of crime.

Sentenced to 16 years in prison for a murder that occurred in 1997, Avdylaj waged a 10-year legal battle for early release from Shënkolli prison—and ultimately won.

Court documents show that Astrit Avdylaj was released after 13 years in prison, having previously provided a medical report diagnosing him with "endogenous depression with suicidal attempts". He was released from prison on March 2, 2016, after the Supreme Court ordered his release on the grounds that "staying in prison would endanger his life."

Just a short time after his release from prison, Avdyli was placed under investigation for involvement in the trafficking of hard drugs. For two and a half years, the Serious Crimes Prosecution conducted hundreds of hours of wiretapping and changed three groups of prosecutors, until in October 2018 it filed charges against 44 people accused of international drug trafficking, corruption, exercise of illegal influence or mass falsification of property.

Astrit Avdylaj was released from the detention cell two years after the sensational arrest, in July 2021 and ended up under 'house arrest'.
