Director Elisabeta Mataj, finance chief Valbona Hoti Duni and treasurer Paola Dana were arrested. Investigations continue into suspicions of economic damage that could reach up to 3 million euros.
The Durrës Prosecutor's Office has ordered the detention of three employees of the Albanian Post branch in Durrës, a day after the institution filed a criminal complaint for suspicions of abuse in the administration of funds.
The branch director, Elisabeta Mataj, the chief financial officer, Valbona Hoti Duni, and the cashier, Paola Dana, have been arrested.
Sources indicate that, following the criminal complaint filed by the Albanian Post, the prosecutor in the case, G. Frëngu, immediately initiated procedural actions and requested the support of the General Directorate of the State Police. The three employees are facing charges filed by the institution for breach of duty and abuse of monetary values.
After the first investigative actions, the prosecutor has decided to detain them, while investigations continue to fully elucidate the suspected mechanism of abuse and the responsibilities of each of them.
A day earlier, the Albanian Post announced that it had dismissed the branch director, Elisabeta Mataj, after an internal audit found irregularities in the administration of funds related to payment services.
According to sources, initially it was suspected that around 700 thousand euros were missing from the subsidiary's fund, while preliminary verifications indicate an economic damage that could reach up to 3 million euros. The final value of the damage is expected to be determined by the Prosecutor's Office's investigations.
The Albanian Post announced that, after completing the inspection, it took administrative measures against the employees involved and referred the case to the prosecution, filing a criminal report.
Elisabeta Mataj took over the management of the Post Office branch in Durrës in October 2025, replacing Etleva Budini, who left office after winning the mandate of MP in the parliamentary elections of May 11.
