Harry Kane was the first from the English camp to react after the end of the semi-final between England and Argentina, won by a landslide 2-1 by the “Albiceleste”. With this success, Messi and his teammates secured qualification for the final on July 19, where they will face Spain.
The England captain analyzed what happened on the field, also commenting on coach Thomas Tuchel's choices, without sparing some indirect criticism of the German coach.
"I'm devastated, devastated for the boys. Devastated for everyone, the technical staff, the fans," said Harry Kane. "We played well for the most part. The moment we got the advantage we wanted to defend the result, at these levels it's not enough," said Kane.
Reflecting on the way England pressed their opponents, Kane said: "It cost us to press them. I think, especially in the first half and at the start of the second half, we pressed them well. We put them under pressure, especially up the pitch, and that allowed us to win the ball and control the game a bit more."
The English captain also commented on the change in the course of the match after the lead goal.
"After the goal, maybe because they had more players in attack or because we couldn't be equal individually, there were waves of attack one after another and we were trying to resist, but in the end it was just not enough," he said.
Regarding the team's approach after taking the lead, Kane said: "The boys are always prepared for every moment of the game and when we got the lead the message was to keep attacking to score another goal. Of course, when they scored their two goals the objective was to find something, but we could have regained control of the game."
Finally, the striker also took stock of England's performance in the tournament: "We've experienced a lot of beautiful moments in this tournament, a lot of good matches. Another semi-final."
