The fate of Jani Aliaj, the 49-year-old from Tepelena, who was executed in Koridhalos prison in Greece, seems to have been predetermined.
Greek media reports that a "death warrant" had been issued against Aliaj. He had survived an assassination attempt about 6 months earlier in the same prison, but on Monday it appears that the plan to kill him was carried out.
The crime was committed by a 27-year-old Greek man, who has been imprisoned for the murder of another Albanian.
The serious incident occurred when a 27-year-old Greek prisoner, also considered a dangerous criminal, entered his cell and stabbed him several times, causing fatal wounds.
Despite immediate intervention, the 49-year-old died as a result of his injuries.
The victim had escaped from Corfu prison years ago, after being granted leave, and had never returned. He was arrested after almost nine years on the run and has been back in prison ever since.
For some time, information has been circulating that the victim had been targeted by rivals, who finally managed to execute the death contract.
In fact, a few months ago he was in a "protected status" and was held in a cell with a police officer who had been accused of drugs. However, even this was not enough, as yesterday, his Greek cellmate inflicted critical blows to the body, from which he eventually died.
