The police of Gjirokastra have provided details of the failed assassination attempt yesterday evening against the lawyer Andrea Zotaj and his nephew in Memaliaj.
The police announce that immediately after the report that a gun was fired in the air in the village of Qesarat, the officers arrested the author of the attack, 41-year-old Fatos Lamaj, a resident of Memaliaj.

"Immediately after the notification received on 28.03.2024, around 19:30, that in the village of Qesarat, a firearm had been shot in the air, the specialists of the Crime Investigation Section of the Memaliaj Police Station organized the work and went to the scene , with the aim of clarifying the circumstances of the case and arresting the author/s.
As a result of quick operational actions, the Police services caught and imprisoned the suspected author of this case, FL citizen, 41 years old, resident of Memaliaj. From the investigations so far, it is suspected that this citizen, for weak motives, shot a firearm (rifle) in the air, in order to threaten citizens AZ, 54 years old and EZ, 34 years old, both relatives of each other. resident of the village of An Vjosë. Afterwards, he hid the firearm in a wooded area in the village of Qesarat.
The firearm was found by the Police services and seized as material evidence, along with some cartridges.
The procedural materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office for further action ," the police announced.
According to the lawyer Zotaj, Lamaj tried to execute him, but luck was with him, since through a dangerous maneuver of the vehicle he was driving, he managed to avoid the bullets fired by the aggressor Lamaj.
Zotaj stated that the incident happened because of his duty, since 2 nights ago the aggressor was caught by the police and kept in custody for 1 day, then released, due to a conflict with a relative of his. The lawyer has shown how he managed to escape the bullets.
"When I saw Fatos Lamaj with a gun, I turned on the high beams to blind him. Then I left at the turn and filed the report with the police", he is said to have said.
