'Storm in a teacup', Benet Beci reacts to accusations of Simon

Following the opposition's accusations that it unjustly dismissed actor Simon Shkreli, the mayor of Shkodra, Benet Beci, has reacted by calling the situation a politically-fueled "storm in a teacup."

" On the eve of the new artistic season, the Municipality of Shkodra analyzed the individual work of the Migjeni Theater troupe and found that some actors had not met their objectives for three years in a row. We do not have the luxury of paying undeserved salaries with taxpayers' money ," says Beci.

He stressed that this reorganization does not affect the quality of the performances, but aims to strengthen artistic activity and improve working conditions. According to him, the political use of the issue by the opposition aims to create unnecessary tension: “ Talent is born, not made by the party. We do not expose individuals, but the facts are in the corporal of the performances: lack of efficiency, effectiveness, productivity and quality of work .”

Beci recalled that even a year ago there were accusations that the “Migjeni” Theater would be closed down, but today, according to him, the theater is experiencing an increase in the number of performances and artistic standards. “The next season will be a real success, just as Shkodra deserves,” he concluded.

Full reaction

As part of the reorganization on the eve of the start of the new artistic season, a few days ago the Directorate of Culture in the Municipality of Shkodra made an assessment of the individual work of each of the members of the professional troupe of actors of the Migjeni Theater, thanks to which it was concluded that some of them had not met the expectations and objectives of previous seasons.

We would like to emphasize that this reorganization not only does not affect the quality or number of performances programmed for the upcoming artistic season of the Migjeni Theater, but on the contrary aims to further strengthen and improve the artistic and organizational activity of the institution.

In an artistic troupe, just like in any other sector of the administration, there are obligations of an employment contract, which in case of non-implementation or non-fulfillment, comes a moment and is terminated. Moreover, when these non-fulfillments are not periodic, but for three years, 12 months without interruption, with the contribution of Shkodra taxpayers.

In respect of the latter, we have the obligation not to allow any of their money to end up paying undeserved salaries as has happened for years in this institution. The Municipality of Shkodra has at the foundation of its work the maximum daily dedication and commitment and has injected this into every individual, starting from the employees of the municipality's services who, despite the weather conditions, continue working to increase the quality of life in the city, to those who fill the halls and squares with their artistic performances.

But as often happens in a polarized society like ours, in such cases, dissatisfaction, opposition, and the political use of individuals emerge. This time, the storm in a glass engulfed all the political echelons of the right in the Shkodra - Tirana axis, even though the glass was completely empty.

But the truth is completely different from this typical political usage. Because the facts are in the list of performances by year, where you can see how much each actor of "Migjen" has stepped on the theater stage.

We as a municipality have no reason to unmask individuals, but in this case we have no reason to hide the individual incompetence of the dismissed actors, and we don't even want to discuss in these lines how many directors have disqualified the two dismissed people as unsuitable.

We do not know on what merits or criteria the two gentlemen whose employment relationship was terminated were hired into the theater troupe, but based on the report that you can read below, it turns out that neither of them had EFFICIENCY, EFFECTIVENESS, PRODUCTIVITY, AND QUALITY AT WORK.

Talent is born, not made by the party!

Finally, we want to remind all art lovers in Shkodra and beyond that about a year and a half ago, a similar straw man was raised "in defense" of the Migjeni Theater, which was about to "melt down". Today, we are all witnesses to the work done to strengthen the artistic quality, increase the number of performances, and improve working conditions for actors, directors, and the public themselves.

The upcoming artistic season will undoubtedly be a true success for the "Migjeni" Theater and its artistic troupe - just as Shkodra deserves!
