The pair won the prestigious award for research that led directly to the first mRNA vaccines to fight COVID-19.
The Nobel Prize in Medicine has been awarded to a pair of scientists who developed the technology that led to mRNA vaccines during the coronavirus pandemic.
Doctors Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman will share the 11 million Swedish kroner (£823,000) prize announced on Monday by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm.
The technology was experimental before the pandemic, but is now available to millions of people around the world.
The same mRNA technology is now being researched for other diseases and even cancer.
