Former president Bamir Topi spoke about "January 21", where 4 protesters were killed. He said that he is ready to testify, even though he has not yet been summoned by the Special Prosecutor's Office, SPAK.
Bamir Topi considers "January 21" as a central event during his presidency. According to him, politics has never been motivated to make a trial of this event while accusing Prime Minister Rama of inaction.
The former president also dwells on his autobiographical book "Nocturn", in which he also wrote about "January 21".
"I have told my truths. For January 21, there are other actors, field actors, political groups, institutions, those who have operated in the field, starting with the media, but also with the people of the law. I have not specifically addressed January 21, but it is part of my presidential journey, where the event of January 21 is definitely a central event. The book belongs to 2018 and was not written immediately when I left the presidency.
We must have respect for the institution, it is in their jurisdiction to think of the methodology all in turn. I can say that it has been 14 years since I talked about January 21. Politics should have remembered to hold the political trial on January 21, if the justice has the case in hand, I do not comment on the decisions of the justice, but I want to say that politics was not motivated to hold the trial on January 21" , said Bamir Topi.
He mentioned the closing of the commission of inquiry on January 21 without a report, while stressing that this is a lack of political responsibility. According to him, after winning the elections in 2013, Rama should have set in motion and opened the work of the investigative commission with a procedure.
"That investigative commission is a unique case, the only commission that has closed its task without a report. Here they can be accused politically and those who archived it without a report, it could have been with two reports. Politics has put the January 21 trial on hold. Politically, I will first blame the current prime minister who uses the ritual of January 21st every year, the silent demonstration of January, it was up to him to reopen the work of the January 21st investigative commission when he took office," Topi told "Report TV".
