The political fate of Ilir Meta (but also of his party) this time will be in the hands of Sali Berisha.
In the local elections of 2023, it was Ilir Meta who saved Sali Berisha. The latter had neither a logo nor a party stamp and entered the elections under the umbrella of the Freedom Party. Meta offered him this opportunity and in return received most of the municipal councils.
But this time it seems that the situation has changed and it is Ilir Meta who needs Sali Berisha. With his arrest, PL has reached the bottom and according to the polls, this party may come out with "red shoes" in the elections. But Sali Berisha is expected to enter the game, serving as a kind of lifeguard for Meta. At least that's the talk behind the scenes.
According to information, PD has started negotiations with its allies regarding the way to participate in the May 11 elections. Given that coalitions are not allowed before the elections and the formula penalizes parties that enter separately, Berisha is trying for the right to enter the elections with a single list. So this means that some allies will have to be included in the PD lists.
