The accident of May 3 in Durrës, where two minors lost their lives, has led to reflection in the majority on intervention in road and criminal legislation. The Chairman of the Laws Committee, Ulsi Manja, declared at the committee meeting that the Socialist Party will present to the Assembly a package of amendments to the Road Code.
Manja directly linked the initiative to the concrete event and the institutional responsibility of the commission he heads. According to him, the commission will analyze the gaps in the legislation and propose interventions aimed at strengthening penalties and preventing similar cases.
In his statement, Manja also mentioned the perpetrator of the accident, Nikoll Radaçi, demanding an "exemplary" punishment.
"This committee has the responsibility to translate this concern that this event has created into legal changes. Together with some colleagues from the majority, we will address the Assembly very soon and propose changes to the Road and Criminal Codes as an adequate response to this situation. Such events will not have to occur to tighten the measures, but we are seeing all the gaps that the Road and Criminal Codes have to address to the appropriate extent. On a human level, the event is very serious and the author of this criminal offense, whatever he may represent, does not deserve to be among us anymore and to receive exemplary punishment according to the law", said Manja.
