"The elections in the Democratic Party are a sham", Salianji: Sali
Ervin Salianji

Ervin Salianji, excluded from the race for the leadership of the Democratic Party, declared that the electoral process within the DP has turned into a farce and a "formal referendum" for Sali Berisha.

He stated in "Real Story" that his expulsion was not unexpected, accusing Berisha of "intellectual misery" and the collapse of the opposition's moral strength. According to him, the situation in the DP is the product of mismanagement and a lack of internal democracy.

He stressed that the race for May 23 cannot be taken seriously, as, according to him, real competition and democratic standards are lacking. He further accused Berisha of not aiming to win the elections or strengthen the DP, but to use the party for personal interests.

Excerpt from the interview:

Question: Sali Berisha will be the only one on the ballot, thus turning the elections into a referendum, which requires a lot of effort and effort to take seriously. Today in the studio with me is one of the excluded candidates but certainly the man who has fought the strongest battle against Sali Berisha these months, Ervin Salianji.

I will have the first part too, I can take it very seriously. It is really very difficult to take this part of the race seriously on May 23rd.

Ervin Salianji:  If you take it seriously, then it seems we have a problem.

Question: How did it all end?

Ervin Salianji: It's not that it wasn't expected. So, Sali Berisha's intellectual misery, organizational decay and the collapse of the moral strength that the opposition should have has been happening for a long time under his leadership. I have simply identified it and then exposed it. So, for 5 months now I have been saying what every democrat says at the tables and every DP official says in private conversations, but who don't have the courage to say it in public that they have the interest of their own chair or armchair and have even come up with that form themselves, but by losing face. So, at a great cost they know that you are losing face.. it's good to lose the elections, but why should you lose face because life goes on. And this week's was the culmination of this whole masquerade that supposedly there are elections now. There are no elections there, there is no democracy.

Question: No, it's official now.

Ervin Salianji:  It is an official charade. It is an official farce, it is an official usurpation. And not only usurpation, but it clearly shows that Sali Berisha has no interest in winning the elections, he has no interest in improving the DP. He wants his own party to use in negotiations with Edi Rama, for personal interests and to create a binomial, a Rama - Berisha regime. If there is a regime in Albania, the regime is Rama - Berisha. So, Rama needs Berisha to stay in power, because having Berisha as a mirror in front of him, he looks younger, less worn out, equally problematic with corruption accusations, with more unfortunately international relations than Sali Berisha. So, they are playing a game and Sali Berisha on the other hand makes personal benefits that are now visible and evident and this move that I made was also appropriate for this reason. So, it has completely exposed and demolished this entire false narrative of Sali Berisha who is interested in the public interest for the big party, etc. etc. Sali Berisha is only interested in his own chair. We went from Lul Brava to Sali Brava now, behind closed doors. But this Sali Kolltuku is a man who is destroying not only the DP for his own chair, but is taking away the hope of thousands of democrats and the entire society in fact, not only the possibility of change and for political parties to compete through alternatives, ideas, what the opposition should have: moral superiority. So, we strongly ask Edi Rama to hold free and fair elections, now let's imagine a little how it seems, because I don't like to say it, just imagine a little the elections that are held in Albania, which have significant problems as the OSCE/ODIHR says with the elections or with the farce that these are not elections, but we are saying with this half-heartedness that Sali Berisha is doing in the DP. And here it is understood now, that the standard is ...

Question:  At this point we simply make that description of a person who has died in this case not simply a party who has died, but a spirit who has died.

Ervin Salianji:  I don't believe that the party is dead, there is some kind of attempt to kill Sali Berisha, but I believe that there will be like any movement because there were people here who cried a lot when Enver Hoxha died because they thought what would happen.
