Last Friday's terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow killed more than 135 people in a brutal crime against humanity. Many important facts are still unclear, and rest assured they will become less clear as the Kremlin works to exploit this crisis both at home and abroad.
Shortly after the March 15-17 farcical presidential election, the attack gave dictator Vladimir Putin a new cause, just a day after the Kremlin declared for the first time that Russia is in a "state of war" in Ukraine. Paranoia is typical for me, as it is for anyone born in the Soviet Union. But the official narrative of Kremlin history is already in crisis. In one of the most heavily guarded cities on earth, where you can be arrested in 30 seconds just for whispering "No to war!", the terrorists continued their attack for more than an hour and then left. The FSB, the state security service, claims to have arrested 4 suspects near the border with Ukraine, one of the most fortified borders in the world. Or did the suspects actually travel to Russia's ally Belarus, as the Belarusian ambassador in Moscow said?
Given the amount of material and preparation required to do so much damage in a place the size of a small village, it's strange how the terrorists so suddenly turned into sloppy amateurs, holding their Tajik passports and heading out. towards a militarized border.
Any official statement by the Kremlin and its propagandists will be a lie, with some half-truths mixed in. It is a reflexive control of the security situation, the product of which is Putin. As I often say, I believe in chance, but I also believe in the KGB.
Putin angrily rejected warnings from the US embassy in Moscow on March 7 and 18 about a possible terrorist attack on a major public space in Moscow. (How did the US know? Were there sources in ISIS-K, or as I suspect, infiltrated within the ranks of the Russian FSB?).

He withdrew from Ukraine, and Hamas began a war against Israel. Weakness breeds aggression. Vladimir Putin believes that to maintain power he needs permanent war. He is therefore creating the conditions to further radicalize the Russian population, and to fulfill his new military mobilization orders.
By the summer of this year, new recruits will be on the front line in Ukraine. Ukraine cannot survive this year unless America's leaders do what is right and not what they think is politically expedient.
Like all dictators, Putin is very adept at creating events to distract attention from his crimes. Moscow's attack will temporarily divert global attention from its war against Ukraine, but it will not ultimately distract it. So I say to you: mourn every innocent life lost in Moscow, but also act to save another in Ukraine. If a suspected serial killer is on the loose, the first thing to do when there is a murder is to verify his alibi.
