After the arrest and resignation of Jorgo Goros from the post of acting mayor of Himara, the country has been left without a leader.
Besides Jorgo Goro, Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara, is also in prison, sentenced to 2 years in prison after he was caught buying votes before the May 14 local elections.
Today the Municipal Council of Himara will meet where it will be decided by vote which of the two vice-presidents, Blerina Bala or Pervin Gjikuria, will lead the municipality of Himara until the new elections.
The Socialist Party has 13 votes in the Council, against 8 votes of the opposition coalition, so the majority will decide alone.
"With the early termination of the mayor's mandate, according to this article, until the election of the new mayor, his functions are performed by the Deputy. Mayor. In cases where there is more than one deputy mayor, the relevant council, with the majority of the votes of the total number of its members, appoints one of the deputy mayors to perform the functions of the mayor until the election of the new mayor" , it is stated in Article 61, point 5.
The Socialists have the majority in the municipal council of Himara, and it is known that Blerina Bala is the main contender to run the municipality until the final resolution of the impasse.
In order to move towards early elections in Himare, the Special Appeal will have to give a final decision for Fredi Beleri.
