For the chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, a "mechanical" union of the opposition is not enough to secure the votes of the Albanians. Basha said that people should see that DP is serious about them and the future of the country.
Further, Basha explained that the democrats' support for justice must be unwavering.
"You are not serious if you talk about the fight against corruption in the morning and insult SPAK at dinner. It is a marked lack of coherence. We must seriously support the justice reform and SPAK in its efforts", said Basha.
Basha sees the crisis that engulfed the Democratic Party after Sali Berisha was declared non grata as an opportunity for the party to emerge stronger. He called for an electoral reform that would benefit the citizens and not some politicians for personal interests.
"We must take seriously the electoral reform that serves Albanians and not some politicians. If we take this seriously, it will undoubtedly create a climate of mass political support for the opposition. If 40 or 50 MPs get together, this will not only not have the same effect, but it can turn into a boomerang! Union why? For their needs to get re-elected? Who cares about that? This crisis, like any other crisis within the opposition, is a great chance to show the Albanians that the PD is capable of changing, embracing challenges and having a vision to lead in the future," Basha said .
The head of the Democratic Party attacked the "dirty agreement" between the majority and the group of opponents led by Gazment Bardhi for the criminal amnesty.
"It is clear that the 'revolution' in Parliament had only personal motives. We saw that he immediately gave up on the amnesty deal, which is very problematic. We warned that the real goal was the release of more than 100 people convicted by SPAK and GJKKO for corruption and organized crime. We raised this issue, we raised the alarm that it is a dirty deal where corrupt officials and convicted by SPAK were being released, while protesters against this corruption did not benefit from the amnesty. This is a dirty deal, you can't even call it a compromise, but a submission of those who call themselves opposition to the main problem in this country, which is the corrupt government. This makes people hopeless," Basha told Euronews Albania.
