The deputy and chairman of the LZHK party, Dashamir Shehi, says that the electoral system was destroyed in 2008 with the agreement that Sali Berisha and Edi Rama made at that time.
Invited to the show Opinion on TV Klan, Shehi stated that the best way of the electoral system in Albania has been corrected majoritarianism.
“ The best way was the corrected majority that we had until 2009. It was the first one in '92 that continued until '96 which had no ceiling. When you set the 40% ceiling, it caused some parties to lose votes, the big parties went here and there, but the parties that could get 8 MPs, got 5-6. We continue through the lists the same number of voters, but the real number of voters is small ", he said.
Shehi also spoke about the introduction of people with criminal records into politics, whose involvement he billed to the party leaders.
"The party puts the bandits on the list. If thugs entered politics, they entered with the signature of the president. The ones we call strong thugs, they didn't get in with fists, they got in with money. Berisha and Rama broke it in 2008 to focus the list on the mayor. This was done to control the party through the list of deputies. That's what happened. The system was broken and a part of democracy was lost. Corrected, change the system. The Albanian people should have the right, apart from the party, to choose the person as well ", said Shehi.
Dashamir Shehi also raises the issue of the number of deputies in Parliament, which according to him should be reduced from 140 to 100 deputies.
“ What is this strange system in such a small country? The day has come to make 100 deputies because the country is getting rare. What about this system that divides small Albania into 12 parts? This is a gesture that has nothing to do with Albania. I am for a national system. These are done if they want to fix politics ," he said.
