Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has accused the head of the Municipality of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, of having a major role in granting the concession of the capital's incinerator, as he is now seeking to be removed as a victim.
According to Berisha, Veliaj is one of the owners of this incinerator who changed the strategy of how waste would be treated in Tirana and influenced the ghost company to receive a bonus in the commission for granting concessions. Furthermore, Berisha said that Veliaj wants to present himself as a client or victim of Klodian Zoto and Mirel Mërtir.
"Erion Veliaj has recently mobilized all media mafia potentials and wants to present himself either as a victim or at least as the mystery of Klodian Zoto and Mirel Mërtir. In this context, sources say that he is putting great pressure on the judiciary. I emphasize that these attitudes constitute a new criminal offense for which he will be held responsible for, in addition to the heavy legal and criminal responsibilities he holds as the main man of the Tirana arsonist.
Pretending that you are a victim or the mystery of Zoto and Martyr means making fun not only of yourself, but of justice and the whole public. Veliaj is the patron saint of Tirana's incinerator, who in order to open the doors of the affair of the century changed the waste treatment strategy from recycling to concessional burning.
No one, neither Zoto nor Rama could decide and dictate a decision to the Mayor without violating the Constitution. Veliaj, in addition to the reversal of the strategy, had a role in the granting of a private concession for the burning of waste in Tirana, which differed from Fieri and Elbasan, which were procurements.
Veliaj is the author, the architect of the 128 million euro burner, which was supposed to be built entirely with the concessionaire's money, but later it was passed that it would be paid for by Albanian taxpayers and in 30 years they would pay Veliaj's company from 680 -750 million euros. It is Veliaj's representatives in the concessions commission that played a role in giving the bonus of 8 points to a company that did not exist except in Veliaj's head," said Berisha.
