Democratic Party MP, Besart Xhaferri, participated this evening in the national protest of Adriatik Lapaj, the fourth organized in front of the Prime Minister's Office in Tirana by the "Albania Becomes" Movement.
Adriatik Lapaj, who has been continuously in the square for nearly 2 months, is demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the establishment of a transitional government until the next elections.
Before the start of the protest, Lapaj emphasized that the country needs a large civic and opposition unity, outside the influence of political party leaders:
" We need a total reform of the electoral system, which has given Edi Rama power at the table. We ask the entire opposition spectrum to distance itself completely from the recent agreement on the Electoral Code. We need a new Code that makes the vote equally valid throughout the country ," he said.
Lapaj added that popular unity should be above party flags and leaders' interests, focusing on citizens and the immediate need for change: " We do not make a deal with Sali Berisha. We aim for a civic unity to remove Edi Rama today. No one can hold the people hostage. Civic unity should be for the need that is already there ."
Today's protest is taking place on "Dëshmorët e Kombit" Boulevard, near the Prime Minister's Office, where citizens and political activists hold banners and chant demands for the resignation of the current government.
