After a long speech in the Assembly of the Socialist Party, Prime Minister Edi Rama decided to remove five ministers from his government cabinet, while repeating the promise that he and the Socialist Party would not protect any ruler who will face justice.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, the Minister of Agriculture, Frida Krifca, the Minister of Education, Evis Kushi, the Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, Edona Bilali, as well as the Minister of State for Standards and Services, Milva Ikonomi, will no longer be part of the Council of Ministers.
Xhaçka has served in the government since 2017, as Minister of Social Welfare, Defense and recently as head of diplomacy.
In the last year, Xhaçka is facing the opposition's request for the removal of the mandate of the deputy after her husband, Artan Gaçi, was declared a strategic investor by the government. The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs will be headed by Igli Hasani, a career diplomat, former ambassador, currently OSCE coordinator for economy and climate.
Even Frida Krifca fled Agriculture a few months after the European Union announced the suspension of IPARD funds based on suspicions of corruption by the Agency for Agricultural and Rural Development, AZHBR, previously headed by her.
Instead of Krifca, Rama brings back to the cabinet the MP Anila Denaj, who previously headed the Ministry of Finance and Economy.
Rama also announced that he had moved Olgerta Manastirliu from the Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Education. Manastirliu led this department since 2017, while he will be replaced by Albana Koçiu, the director of the Department of Public Administration.
The Minister of Finance and Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj, is dismissed from this position to be entrusted to a smaller ministry without a portfolio, such as that of Entrepreneurship. In charge of Finance, Rama appointed Ervin Meten, former deputy minister in this department, who currently held the position of director of the Financial Supervision Authority.
The Prime Minister announced the creation of a new ministry without portfolio, which according to him will coordinate the work between the central and local governments, taking the deputy mayor of Tirana, Arbjan Mazniku, into the cabinet for this task.
Ardian Çela, Eduart Ndreca, Evis Kushi, Etjen Xhafa, Romina Kuko and Milva Ikonomi are the names that will lead the secretariats of the SP, after being voted in at the Extraordinary Congress, which Rama announced for the month of October./BIRN
