The EU ambassador in our country, Luigi Soreca, has stated that the Population and Housing Census is important for the negotiations for Albania's membership.
During his speech, Soreca emphasized that Albania faces specific demographic challenges in the region, so it must have reliable statistical information.
He also stated that the European Union has given 4.8 million euros in grants to INSTAT for counting the entire population and housing in the country, and, according to him, this should be done in accordance with the Union's standards.
"It is an honor and a privilege to return to Albania at this special moment for the country. President Von Der Leyen just finished her speech and said how important is the moment of EU enlargement and that there is no need to change the treaty, but to take the countries into consideration.
Albania arrives at this moment quite well. Albania in the region faces specific demographic challenges, so there must be reliable statistical information for this part. This census and further development is also important in the negotiations for Albania's membership.
In the EU, one must know how many membership votes a country has. Census data is part of many aspects of Albania's membership talks, EU policies rely on reliable data.
While Albania is getting closer and closer to membership, the country must have census data that matches the standards, so the EU has created a partnership with INSTAT. We have mobilized 4.8 million euros in grants for INSTAT, we have had support and we thank them for the coordination.
Lessons learned from the previous census have served as lessons for INSTAT to include ethnic minorities, this will lead to improved rights in line with EU standards. Albania has paved the way for the reliability of data, this can be an impetus for the country in its integration into the EU. In the EU, we will support Albania," said Soreca.
