Shkodra Police investigations suspect that the target was again Preng Gjini, who survived the assassination attempt with 400 grams of C4 in Tirana in 2020. Photographs of him were also found on the arrested man's cell phone.
A second assassination attempt on Preng Gjini is suspected to have been prevented by the Shkodra Police, following the arrest of a 38-year-old man who was carrying explosives equipped with a remote detonation mechanism.
Investigative sources indicate that Euglen Buraku, 38 years old, a resident of Durrës, who was arrested a few days ago in the village of Stajkë in Vau i Dejës, has been arrested. According to “ Euronews Albania ”, he was driving a vehicle with old, overlapping license plates and had with him a quantity of explosives connected to a mobile phone, which was suspected of being used for remote detonation.
One element that has strengthened the investigators' suspicions is the fact that during the examination of Burak's phone, photographs of Preng Gjini were found, which has oriented the investigation towards the possibility that he was the possible target of the assassination.
Another suspect, Eduard Përgjoka, 34, who is wanted, has also been identified in the same investigation. During a search of his apartment in Rubik, detonator capsules, 11 mobile phones and cannabis seeds were seized.
The two people are being investigated for the criminal offenses of "premeditated murder", "unauthorized possession of weapons" and "production and sale of narcotics".
The assassination of 2020
Preng Gjini survived a spectacular assassination attempt on September 15, 2020, when the vehicle he was traveling in exploded on the Selita Bridge in Tirana. Investigations revealed that about 400 grams of C4 explosives had been placed in the front of the vehicle, activated by remote control while it was in motion.
Despite his serious injuries, Gjini managed to survive. At the time, he told investigators that he had no conflicts and did not feel threatened, denying that he was in enmity with other people.
The "Revanshi" file and SPAK's accusations
The 2020 assassination was later revealed by SPAK as part of the "Revanshi" file, where the prosecution raised the charge that the attack was organized for blood feud motives. Several people have been prosecuted for this event, accused of organizing and providing the material conditions for carrying out the assassination.
In this file, SPAK accuses that Elson Reçi, later arrested in Dubai with the aim of extradition to Albania, had provided the conditions and means for the assassination, while according to the investigations he led a criminal group in Rrëshen. The prosecution has also announced that information about Preng Gjini's movements was allegedly forwarded to the criminal group by persons involved in the network.
The prevention of the suspected assassination of recent days is expected to shed more light on whether it is a continuation of the conflict that led to the 2020 attack on Preng Gjin, or a new criminal episode.
