The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted harshly to the planned interventions in the ruined buildings of the infamous Spaç prison, one of the darkest symbols of political persecution during the communist regime in Albania.
In a statement to the media from the blue headquarters, Berisha described the project as an attempt by Prime Minister Rama to "erase the traces of the horrors" that occurred in that prison camp.
"It is an attempt by Edi Rama to cover up with plaster and paint the terrible tragedy that happened in that camp against hundreds and thousands of Albanians ," Berisha said.
According to the opposition leader, the reconstruction of Spaç aims to mitigate and relativize the crimes of the communist regime.
"It is the use of a pretext to cover up the tracks, to protect the executioners of the dictatorship. It is a second blow to the ordeal that took place in that camp. Rama thinks that with plaster he can erase the work of his barbaric fathers ," declared Berisha.
He emphasized that this action is clear evidence of the way in which the descendants of the communist system are trying to rewrite history and relativize the past.
