The adviser for the economy in the Democratic Party, Dorian Teliti, reacted after the statements of the mayor Erion Veliaj.
He says that his excuses for the directors arrested by SPAK are useless. According to Telit, Veliaj had the arrested directors as part of the electoral staff of last year's elections.
He also points out that Veliaj not only denied the allegations but also threatened to file defamation charges.
"Erion Veliaj is not a simple resident of Tirana, but is its first citizen. Therefore, everything that happens in Tirana, every decision and activity of his staff and executive team, cannot be without the knowledge or involvement of his.
For days, Albanians have clearly understood how far the greed of the renaissance reaches to abuse the country's property and finances.
We heard yesterday and today the mayor Veliaj who finally spoke about what is happening. We saw a subordinate praising his boss and hitting on his boss' co-workers or former co-workers.
We heard how the mayor tried to pass the responsibility here and there.
Veliaj spoke about the personal responsibility of each individual involved. But what happens to the millions of euros that they have benefited from the budget of the municipality or UKT? Where is the money? Isn't the financial management of the municipality of Tirana and the institutions and enterprises of the dependency the responsibility of the mayor himself?
Veliaj said that a high official cannot know about everything. Yes true, there can't be. But this does not apply to the specific case. Since 1 year, the opposition candidate for Tirana, Belind Kelliçi, submitted the criminal complaint against the company '5D', so any excuse for ignorance is completely inappropriate. Moreover, it was the mayor Veliaj himself, who, after the denunciation to the prosecutor's office, appeared on the screens and strongly opposed the charge raised, and even threatened to sue Kelliç for defamation.
Veliaj says that those arrested in the 5D file are former directors, that is, removed from his side. This is not true, since at the time when the financial crimes were committed at the expense of the taxpayers of Tirana, they were in office, even in the highest positions.
Veliaj says that these directors have not given him any personal benefit and pretends to forget that it was these directors who made up his electoral staff in the last local elections. As they extorted public money, they also stole the votes of the tyrants.
Veliaj also mentioned the 'January 21 fire group', while it is his government that promoted and made Veliaj's colleague, i.e. mayor, the officer of this 'group', Agron Malanj. Moreover, it is the brother of Agron Malaj, Fatos Malaj, who in cooperation with another director of the municipality of Tirana, Elvin Tivarin, owns one of the most luxurious hotels in Dhërmi, 'La Brise'.
The Democratic Party calls on the Mayor of Tirana to accept the request of the opposition councilors for an urgent meeting of the municipal council, a request which yesterday we barely submitted to the municipality surrounded by police and the door closed with chains.
The Democratic Party calls on Mayor Veliaj to resign, as the violence that has covered the institution of the municipality cannot be removed either with statements or allusions to his former colleagues, in the municipality or in the government.
