December 5 marks International Volunteer Day. President Bajram Begaj, through a post on social media, expressed gratitude for their contribution to society.
Among other things, Begaj says that this part of the community is a moral pillar that keeps social volunteer engagement and solidarity alive.
"Today, on International Volunteer Day, I would like to express my respect for all the volunteers who serve the community unconditionally! You are the moral pillar that keeps voluntary social engagement and solidarity alive. This day reminds us of the strength of a society built on help and dedication, fundamental values of our national character.
"Respect and gratitude to every initiative that empowers the community and stands by its citizens. Continue with courage! Albania needs your heart and contribution today and every day," Begaj wrote on social media.
This day was designated by the UN General Assembly in 1985 and is dedicated to all those many volunteers around the world who sacrifice their personal interests for the benefit of society and the community. December 5 is seen as a unique opportunity to share their values and promote their work among their communities, non-governmental organizations, United Nations agencies, government authorities and the private sector.
In addition to mobilizing thousands of volunteers each year, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program contributes to peace and development by advocating for the recognition of volunteers and working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programs.
