Meloni auctions off gifts, including Edi Rama's scarf
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is preparing a special auction of luxury gifts she has received during official trips abroad, reports the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
Among the objects that will be sold, one of the gifts that has attracted the most attention is the special scarf that Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, gave to Meloni in Abu Dhabi, on her 48th birthday.
The auction will be organized by the renowned Bertolami Fine Art auction house in Rome and includes only gifts worth over 300 euros, as under Italian law, officials cannot keep some of these significant gifts for themselves.
The shawl donated by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has become one of the most commented objects in the collection. It was presented as a gift in Abu Dhabi, during an official visit where Meloni celebrated her 48th birthday. Even at that time there was a stir, as Rama continues with his scenes every time he sees Meloni. Rama knelt down and this action brought many reactions. Meloni himself said: "Don't embarrass me".
According to La Repubblica, the total value of the objects planned to be sold amounts to around 800 thousand euros and the list includes over 270 items that are currently stored in a special room in Palazzo Chigi, the seat of the Italian government.
Among the most special gifts are:
