The Democratic Party was born as a hope for pluralism; today it is led by the only one who did not create it, but "eliminated" everyone...
Today marks the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Party, the first opposition force in Albania after the fall of the dictatorship. Proclaimed on December 12, 1990, just four days after the student movement of December 8, the DP began as a popular movement with 338 founders and signatories, who had a clear mission: to end a monist regime and bring democracy.
But 35 years later, the question that must be asked is: where are those 338 people who signed the birth of the DP today? The answer is shocking, none of them are any longer part of the leadership of this party. Only one name remains: Sali Berisha.
It was Azem Hajdari who came out first in front of the crowd, and at the historic moment of the party's announcement, he was the name mentioned as chairman. But Sali Berisha, who in those days was neither the founder nor the choice of the base, grabbed the microphone and the attention, placing himself at the center of the political scene, a protagonism that he maintained at all costs for decades.
In the months that followed, Berisha took control of the party and gradually politically eliminated all the founders, one by one: From Abdi Baleta, Petrit Kalakulla, Ridvan Peshkopia or Uran Butka, to Tomor Dosti, Tomor Malasi, Azem Hajdari, Zenel Hoxha or Aleksandër Meksi.
The list is long. In fact, it is the official document with the 338 signatories of the DP that proves better than any comment: none of them have a place in the presidency, nor in the Assembly, and for the majority, no longer have any connection to the DP.
A little while ago, a commemorative ceremony was held at the DP headquarters for the founding of the DP, but there were 3-4 names that signed on December 12, 1990. The only one who "reigns" is Sali Berisha. / Pamphlet
