Journalist Nikoll Lesi has commented on the Democratic Party's position in the by-elections in Tirana. According to him, the opposition is losing ground due to a lack of trust from citizens and the absence of a unified leadership.
Lesi emphasized the need for reform of the DP, saying that good leaders of the DP could be Tomor Alizoti or Majlinda Bregu, as alternatives for leading the party.
He also stated that the era of Sali Berisha has ended and with this current leadership, Edi Rama will remain in power even after the 2029 elections.
"The Democratic Party is divided in the by-elections in Tirana. The opposition is having a hard time, because the citizens have lost trust. If the leadership of the DP changes, if there is an opening in the Democratic Party, new figures are invited, only then can we say that the DP can start its revival. A good figure would be Tomor Alizoti, he knows how to speak, he is good, he attracts the electorate.
Sali Berisha once created an era, but his era is over. Berisha no longer inspires trust, because he has 400 thousand votes and cannot overthrow Edi Rama, who has 800 thousand votes. The DP should elect a different leader, perhaps not even Tomor Alizoti, but Majlinda Bregu, for example, or another candidate. Berisha leaves no one behind, Sali Berisha can prepare the new leader and this leader will be ready for 2029. With this leadership, Edi Rama will win the elections in 2029 again. Albania and Montenegro will be accepted into the EU before 2030, it will be a strategic decision," he declared for "News 24".
