The vice president of the Freedom Party, Erisa Xixho, said that Ilir Meta will continue to lead the party from prison.
"The Freedom Party has its president, Meta will lead the party even under the conditions of prison arrest, which is unnecessary, they could have decided even yesterday on the obligation to appear, as long as he has appeared and how many times he has been requested.
We have the case of Trump, who is running today for president of the USA even though he has 34 charges. Jail arrest is unjustified and not proportionate", said Xixho.
He calls Meta's arrest a use of justice to hit the opposition. Xixho emphasizes that they will not withdraw from the opposition action for any reason.
"We will continue with the opposition action, the November 29 protest and meeting with the citizens and the denunciations. We are not afraid of any use of justice to silence the opposition", Xixho concluded.
In the file that SPAK has attached for Ilir Meta, her father Pirro Xhixho is also accused, who is being investigated for the charge of passive corruption for the time he was in charge of AKEP. Xixho says that she admits that these are difficult days for her family and that there is no evidence in the file that proves her father's guilt.
"First I found out about it from the media. It has been a very difficult situation for my family. I had to notify my father myself. This is not normal. First they had to announce us, then the media. I appreciate the decision of the court that gave yesterday to soften the measure for my father, considering the situation and conditions where my father is.
Two or three very difficult and shocking days, I can say that we were happy about the change in measure, but we are outraged that the lawyers and I have seen the file. There is no proof or fact that implicates the director of AKEP in personal gains.
AKEP is a constitutional institution that is elected by the parliament and operates by the board where the decisions are collegial. There is no evidence to implicate my father. We will follow the legal procedure with the deep conviction that he will be found innocent," said Xixho on Report TV.
