According to Rama, 'a professionally lame and dismissive justice system could become a danger' for the country.
Prime Minister Edi Rama today revealed in the 'Sy m'Sy' column on Facebook the reason for the 5-year silence towards justice institutions.
Rama, indirectly emphasizing that the success of SPAK is his and the PS's merit, said the silence was a strategy to guarantee an atmosphere where the independence of the new justice institutions could be consolidated.
'We were silent, totally silent for 5 years in a row, 5 years or more even, not because we didn't see problems, not because we weren't scandalized in some case or didn't have sensitivity to a pressure that has sometimes gone to the point of absurdity on administration employees, but we were strategically silent, we were silent to guarantee an atmosphere where the independence of the new justice institutions could be consolidated, in a country where justice has never, ever had independence and where the norm has been intimidation and its taking over by political power.', he said.
Prime Minister Edi Rama further says that his reactions were not attacks on SPAK, but rather demanded European standards in a justice process, referring to the case of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj.
Rama has also once again focused on the arrest of the mayor.
He says that a professionally lame and dismissive justice system could turn into a danger.
'Now that independence seems to me to be a test watermelon when the people say it, but clearly the source of self-confidence of SPAK and GJKKO, we will talk about strengthening democracy every time these standards are violated by the judiciary. An independent judiciary, but professionally lame and disregarding constitutional freedoms and rights, and even the constitutional separation of powers, can become a threat to democracy itself, a problem for society and an obstacle to the economy.
"If there are signs that the abuse of the independence of the judiciary could become a path of legal uncertainty in the body of society, the problem is no longer simply of those who are directly mistreated by a power that is puffed up with itself, but it is a problem for the country and society, as such it is for me as Prime Minister, not to attack it, but to help justice consolidate," said Rama.
