As March 1, the day when the Democratic Party primaries will be held, approaches, there is a withdrawal of some names from the race to secure a place on this party's list of candidates for MPs for the May 11 elections.
So after Helidon Bushati, the MP for Shkodra District, who announced his withdrawal on Tuesday afternoon, another name from the DP leadership has withdrawn from the race. It is the Secretary of the Diaspora, Indrit Hoxha. The latter, in an announcement on social networks, emphasizes that "after deep reflection and with the greatest responsibility towards you and our common mission, I have decided not to be part of the race in the primaries for candidates for MP."
" This is not a retreat, but a new commitment to strengthen the Democratic Party and support every effort that leads us to victory."
Today, more than ever, Albania needs real change. After years of tedious and corrupt misgovernance, it is time for a political rotation that will restore Albanians' hope and trust in institutions. This change will not come by itself – it requires sacrifice, dedication, and commitment from every democrat and every citizen who loves this country.
"There is no longer any room for passive attitudes. It is our duty to do everything necessary with will and determination to bring about change. Every effort, every commitment, every sacrifice is a step towards an Albania free from corruption and injustice ," Hoxha said.
As in the case of Bushati, Hoxha also promises loyalty to Berisha and the DP, but it seems that the withdrawal from the primaries is not a very positive signal not only for the internal competition, but also for the spirit with which the largest opposition force enters the elections. Perhaps the fact that the seats on what is considered the 'safe list' are predetermined is a reason for the withdrawal from the primaries, since many of those who enter the race and will be declared winners, may simply be fillers on the official list of candidates for MPs.
