Analyst Ergys Mërtiri has stated that for the first time in the DP, you are not allowed to run. While discussing the race for mayor, he said that Berisha is only working to kill the alternative within the opposition.
So, according to Mërtir, all the dissatisfied members within the DP are being prevented from having a representative. He further underlined that Berisha is behaving like Rama and that he does not accept any opposing opinion.
"It's not the first time that elections are being stolen, but they don't even allow you to run. Berisha wants to stay at the head of the DP. Berisha has enough power to either win or manipulate the elections internally, but there is another problem that the competition will produce an anti-Berisha faction within the party. The whole unhappy membership within the DP is being prevented from having a representative. Because the moment there is a candidate, Berisha is terrified. If someone comes forward, Berisha wants to exclude them altogether because no matter how weak the competitor is, he intends to remove them. He wants to keep it as an autocratic party and not democratic. He is now behaving like Rama," he said, among other things.
Mërtiri added that an opposition with a dictatorship within it cannot win against a dictatorial government. According to him, the leader of the DP is excluding all opposing voices, and he is also doing this with Ervin Salianji.
"Berisha chooses to remain at the head of an autocratic party that leaves Berisha at the head. Berisha knows very well that a democratic party would not keep him at the head of the party. He chooses his own predicament and not the opposition's, and so Rama stays where he is and Berisha at the head of the DP. Through Berisha, Rama stays in power. Accusing every opponent as having sold out to the enemy is ridiculous, and shows a mechanism that excludes different opinions, this is what Enver Hoxha did. So Berisha not only hinders opponents within the party, but anyone who articulates reasonable things is declared an enemy and excluded. Berisha has an enemy, not Salianji or Alesia Balliu, but he has an enemy, reason," he said on "News24".
