Former MP Petro Koçi spoke after the tributes for the former historical leader of the Socialist Party, Fatos Nano, who was escorted to his final resting place today.
Koçi said that Fatos Nano is a state architect, as according to him, he raised the state from the 'ruins of 97', turning it into a normal and civic state. He described Nano as a champion of freedom and institutional democracy, while adding that he had a spirit of sacrifice.
'It is sometimes difficult to make a complete definition, but I can say without a doubt that Fatos Nano was a champion of freedom and institutional democracy, a man with an unrivaled intellect and a spirit of sacrifice that distinguished him from the leadership of many others. You know, he made a prison, which has not happened to other political figures
Fatos Nano is a state architect, because he was tasked with the mission of raising into a political and state structure, first what we can call the 'ruins of the Labor Party' and together with all of us we raised a modern and European Socialist Party, but also with great political responsibility and on the other hand, on the ruins of 1997, he was tasked with raising a normal and civic state, which he handed over in 2005. He took it one way and left it another way," he said.
Petro Koçi also said that Nano was imprisoned by Sali Berisha's political lust and greed. But unlike the others, according to Koçi, Nano did not suffer from an obsession with power.
"Regarding the internal plan, I said that Fatos was a champion of freedoms and institutional democracy. They fought for him internally. Maybe it's not the day today, but even when he was in prison, there was an attempt within the SP to politically re-imprison him, to overthrow him from the position of chairman at the time he was in prison due to Sali Berisha's political lust and greed. But unlike others, he did not suffer from an obsession with power. And this distinguishes him from those who have had or have power in parties or state levels ," Koçi said for "Report TV".
The former MP emphasized that the former historical leader of the Socialist Party was not jealous when someone had high reputation and values. In fact, he often catapulted people who attacked him to power, as he mentioned the name of Ilir Meta here.
"This was his mission, he had to rebuild the state and politics from the ruins. In this whole mission of the left, he created energy with the most numerous collaborators and there was one thing about Fatos Nano, he was not afraid of anyone from the point of view of intellect and reputation. He was not jealous when someone had high points in reputation and values. Of course, he was more sporty than he should be, I said this even when I visited him in prison, because he was optimistic. And when I got out of the prison in Bënçë, I told my friend, this is more sporty than he should be.
Those who say he was a liberal, you have to look at his lack of obsession with power. We have had political debates, but I have never fought him. I have criticized him a lot and I loved him.
"I think there was a mistake, the people who fought him, the problem is that he often catapulted them by giving them power and they used this to attack him, as is the case of Meta, whom the party made leader without respecting the rules," said former MP Koçi.
F. Nano thotë Koçi nxorri shtetin nga gërmadhat e 97 por nuk thotë që nuk nxorri përgjegjësit e shkatrrimit të shtetit për 8 vjet sa ishte në pushtet! Liberal apo pseudoliberal? Pseudoliberal sepse lejoi korrupsionin dhe shumë kontrata groposëse të parave të shqiptareve filluan në kohën e tij! Shtetar apo aventurier? Aventurier sepse nuk ounoi për nji moral të ri pas 97 , rrrgulla qendrime e politika e praktika të mira demokratike në politikë, ekonomi, etj. Do mbahet mend për thënjen e famshme mendjemadhe, fyese, ironike të pa bazë: “Jam Fatos Nano mbrapa më vjen historia”.
