Endrit Shabani, one of the strong critics of Sali Berisha and the old politics, at least in the May 11 elections when he aimed to obtain a mandate as an MP through a coalition "Albania Becomes Initiative" was elected as the People's Advocate. With the support of 35 DP deputies, Shabani overcame the first obstacle, that of entering the race, from where later with the votes of Edi Rama's socialists and his allies, he secured a 5-year mandate as the People's Advocate.
Among the Democratic signatories was MP Elda Hoti. She made a self-criticism on social media today, apologizing to all Democrats.
Hoti explains that the signature was given only for the purpose of hearing the candidate at the Laws Committee hearing, but according to her, it was politically misused by the majority.
"Sincere condolences to the Democrats, the opposition and our supporters for a signature given only to be heard at a hearing in the Laws Committee, a signature that was later misused by Edi Rama and Taulant Balla to approve the illegitimate candidacy of Endri Shabani," the DP MP said.
Hoti emphasizes that, despite the official withdrawal of signatures, Prime Minister Edi Rama has continued the process of electing the Ombudsman, considering it contrary to the Constitution and democratic standards.
"Despite the fact that the signatures have been officially withdrawn, Edi Rama elected the People's Advocate in violation of the Constitution and every democratic standard.
However, I don't want to avoid responsibility.
"This remains a mistake, for which I sincerely apologize to every democrat and every Albanian citizen," Hoti writes.
