
The MP of the Socialist Party, at the same time the Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Blerina Gjylameti, during her visit to the USA, was hosted by Jennifer Ceriale, Director of European Policies and Global Affairs, at the US Department of State.
Ceriale appreciated Albania's contribution and role in the international arena during the last three years, especially in the UN Security Council and now as a member of the Human Rights Council.
During the meeting, Kosovo's request for membership in the Council of Europe was also discussed.
"It was a special pleasure to hear the highest praise from the American side for Albania's contribution and role in the international arena during the last three years, especially in the UN Security Council and now as a member of the Human Rights Council.
Also, we discussed the current agenda and dynamics of the Council of Europe, where we agreed that the request for Kosovo's membership in this Organization should ensure as much support as possible from the member countries, as this membership will not only bring consolidation of democracy, the state of law and human rights in Kosovo, but it will be an added value for the stability and prosperity of the entire Western Balkans", announces Gjylameti.
During the meeting, she expressed the necessity of Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe as soon as possible.
Gjylameti thanked the high American official for the evaluation of Albania.
