Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the education system needs to be reformed, adding that it is one of the key elements that will have to receive proper attention.
Rama continued with the old propaganda that he uses in every campaign, as he said that in a few months the average salary of teachers will reach 950 euros, with the increase that has been determined, but according to him this is insufficient
During his speech today at the presentation of the National Program for the Professional Development of Teachers, he also stated that the possibility is being considered that we will no longer have a unified salary system for teachers, but that they will be paid according to merit and performance in teaching. For this reason, the creation of a digital portfolio has started, which will have data on each teacher, their qualifications, training, teaching performance.
Rama also said that in order to raise the education system even more, there is a need for human capital.
"We may find ourselves in front of an impossible situation. Today, Albania is at another level, it has a new door to the future in economic terms, and salary increases are a reflection, which will continue. But while today we are in the conditions that we can put the potential of our country at the disposal of the economy much more than yesterday, we face the need that the release of this potential puts in front of us the need for human capital, qualified, workforce, in all levels.
Certainly, this is not a moment where there is only one solution, but it requires many solutions in all directions, not only in education. Focus on education is vital! Because fortunately we are not in the time we were, not many years ago, when teachers were abandoned and unprotected. When the country of each of you was determined by politics, bribery and so on.
Today, every teacher has a guaranteed place thanks to his ability, and no one can move him for reasons that are not related to the profession. This is the most basic foundation. This is not enough, just like the salary increase... the salaries for teachers will soon be on average 950 euros, but it is not enough and therefore we need to reform the system.
We have to completely reform the mechanism of that salary increase every 5 years. On the other hand, we must make it possible that, in addition to the uniform salary, there are different levels according to merit, contribution and qualifications. But we need a reliable system of qualifications and training, credits and the ministry [mentioned the digital portfolio, but there are also a number of elements that need to be put in line.
We believe we can rise to this challenge. It is strong, but we believe that we can succeed if the entire body of the education system is made available to this challenge, understanding the importance of the teacher's mission today", said Rama.
