An armed attack occurred during a correspondents' dinner in Washington, while the US president was also in the hall.
A gunman attempted to enter the premises of the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner, shooting and wounding an officer, before being neutralized and arrested.
The incident occurred as the ceremony had just begun. According to witnesses, an unusual movement near the entrances to the hall was accompanied by gunshots and alarm calls, forcing attendees to jump to the ground and seek protection under tables.
The president and his wife, Melania Trump, who were at the head table, were immediately removed by Secret Service agents, who intervened quickly and in a coordinated manner. Within moments, the room was filled with heavily armed security forces, while guests were ordered to evacuate.
