Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his podcast "Flasim", spoke about food safety and the process of approximation with European Union standards, describing it as one of the main challenges of integration.
Rama said that the current focus is on ensuring that food products on the Albanian market are not only safe for consumption, but also acceptable to the European market.
He stressed that the process is not limited to harmonizing laws with the EU, but requires concrete implementation in practice. Rama said that building a functional control and quality system in every link of the food chain remains essential, adding that the government will increase interaction with enterprises in agriculture and the food industry.
We recall that the issue of food safety is under the EU's radar and is considered a key condition for the integration of our country.
Progress not only with laws but also on the ground is the message that EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato left a few days ago, during a meeting attended by Rama and business entrepreneurs.
"The focus of this week has been what will be the focus of all the weeks to come, in one way or another, food safety and approximation to European Union standards. In a meeting organized with food business operators, we focused on a very concrete topic. How will we guarantee that every product consumed by citizens is not simply safe, but is an accepted and successful product in tomorrow's common market of Europe, where we will be members with equal rights, but also with equal obligations. And this is related to a more complex current challenge of our membership process in the European Union, which is ensuring tomorrow for all those who have built today on the foundations of a collection point, processing or production of food by-products, which means from living things to packaged products.
A process that is often misunderstood as a list of tasks that must be fulfilled for others, while in essence it is something that is directly related, not just to the health of Albanians here in Albania, of consumers here in Albania, but also to our common national mission of Albania in the European Union in 2030. It is not a matter of rules on paper, it is a matter of jointly building a functional system of production, control, quality and trust in every link. At this stage, Albania is not only doing legal harmonization with the European Union, but also must ensure the concrete implementation of laws in everyday reality. And therefore, we are interacting and will interact more and more actively with entrepreneurs and enterprises in agriculture, entrepreneurs and enterprises dealing with animal products and their by-products, entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs dealing with everything that comes out of Albanian soil today, thanks to their work and golden hands", said Rama.
Among other things, Rama also spoke about the "Mountain Package", a program that, according to him, aims to promote investments in mountainous areas and turn inherited properties into a source of income.
Rama stated that the package aims to create a new model of rural development, linking land and old houses with entrepreneurship in tourism and agro-processing. According to him, the process has been simplified and allows the start of investments even without completing the ownership procedures, while it provides fiscal incentives for first-time investors.
He added that this program aims not only to increase income for families in mountainous areas, but also to address property issues inherited over the years, linking them to economic development.
"The next note is related not to an event, but to a program, a national program that has already begun to take shape through an impressive number of interests and applications, primarily from our brothers and sisters outside Albania, who thanks to this program are turning their heads to Albania, not simply to be interested as they have always done in the progress of their work or the progress of life in their families, but to invest their savings.
The Mountains Package! The Mountains Package is opening a new path in rural development and is creating the premises for added value, for a new engine in our tourism industry, giving the mountains, giving mountainous Albania a new dimension, through the return of land and grandparents' houses into development instruments and new real opportunities to create entrepreneurship and generate income, without question, higher than what can be created by working for others abroad.
The process has become simple, it has become accessible. Investment can begin without a final title of ownership. For this, the mountains package has been created, to address a problem carried over from years in wonderful territories where legitimate owners do not enjoy title of ownership because they have not accepted law 7501 and meanwhile there are no conflicts between them.
And through investment they will be able to ensure that at the end of the process, where they will also have significant fiscal benefits, for example, the first 500 who will receive permission to start work will be exempt from taxes for 10 years, they will also have the title deed of ownership. So, for all those who listen to me and who are interested or are in doubt or are suspicious, try the mountain package. Try the mountain package! Try the mountain package and it is little, but certain that if you open the door of your grandfather's old house and rekindle the fireplace in that house or create a small farm, an agro-processing point somewhere on land that is far from the territories of cities, time will prove me right, it will prove us right and you will be happy with the step you take today. Because the investment will return to you in prosperity and goodness for your families, but at the same time it will also be a contribution to Albania ," Rama said.
