The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has leveled strong accusations against the government, calling it responsible for stealing from citizens and tarnishing Albania's image in the international arena. In a meeting with the leaders of the Democratic Party in Tirana, he responded to Rama's accusations that the opposition is blackening the country in the international arena. According to him, the problem does not lie with the opposition, but with the way the country is governed.
" Instead of attacking the government that steals from citizens, they try to find fault with the opposition. They usually say that you are exposing, that we denounce Albania in world forums. But Albania is vilified by those who steal from citizens, those who block justice ," declared Berisha.
He raised the question of who is really harming the country's interests, adding: " Who is blackening Albania? The one who protects the interests of the citizens, or the one who uses power to enrich himself with billions. We are protecting the interests of Albanians ."
Berisha used harsh tones towards the majority, comparing it to past practices: "There are no villains like these, they are identical to the mentality of the previous dictatorship."
In his speech, he also touched on the process of integration into the European Union, emphasizing the importance of respecting standards. " We are moving towards EU integration and this means common standards, but if we go against these, they are only for the purpose of making the Albanian citizen freer and safer ," he said.
The DP leader also accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of distorting these standards and of positions that, according to him, do not comply with the public interest. “ Now replacing these criteria with the excellent Edi Rama…who says that Albanians have a hostage-taking culture ,” Berisha said.
He then made specific accusations about property administration and the functioning of institutions. " The group led by Edi Rama has committed a heinous crime with the Albanian Cadastre. 13,000 sheets disappeared from the Tirana Cadastre alone ," he declared, adding that the operations in this sector "exceed billions."
According to Berisha, the way the properties were handled was such that traces of ownership were lost: "The property was transferred to X, X was told to take it to someone else until every trace of the property disappeared."
He also mentioned other cases that, according to him, are related to abuses, including issues previously raised by the opposition: " Edi Rama himself with the Gjipëse canyon... We remember when we raised the issue ."
