The Chairwoman of the Agriculture Committee of the Freedom Party, Silvana Bajrami, said that Albania ranks among the 10 countries with the highest increase in food prices in Europe during the period 2015–2025.

"This is a shocking statistic for a country with low per capita income, where a large portion of Albanian families can barely afford basic food expenses ," she said.

The Chairwoman of the Agriculture Committee in the PL emphasizes that the recent case of mass poisoning of over 70 children in a kindergarten in Gramsh is a national alarm and a direct consequence of the systematic failure of the responsible institutions.

“Albania ranks among the 10 countries with the highest food price increases in Europe during the period 2015–2025. This is a shocking statistic for a country with low per capita income, where a large portion of Albanian families can barely afford basic food expenses.

What makes the situation even more serious is the fact that, despite this relentless price increase, the quality and safety of food on the market continues to deteriorate. The recent case of mass poisoning of over 70 children in a kindergarten in Gramsh is a national alarm and a direct consequence of the systematic failure of the responsible institutions.

The responsible institutions have repeatedly failed to build an effective food safety control system. The AKU (National Food Authority) continues to function more as a bureaucratic office than as a public health protection structure. Inspections are rare, often formal, while responsibilities for serious incidents are never taken seriously.

In a country where the price of bread, milk and basic products increases every year, citizens have the right to at least have security in what they consume. But the reality is grim: contaminated products are present on the market, labels are inaccurate and legal standards are often ignored. The government bears responsibility for this intolerable situation, because it has chosen not to invest in food control, not to demand transparency and not to punish violators.

Instead of transparency, we have silence. Instead of responsibility, we have excuses. Meanwhile, it is our children who are at risk, it is our families who pay dearly for unsafe food, and it is the trust of citizens that is damaged daily.

We call on the government to immediately stop this criminal negligence. Take immediate measures to increase control over the production, import and distribution of food. Ensure that educational and childcare institutions have only certified and safe supplies. Harshly punish those responsible for any case that endangers public health.

"Albania cannot move forward by sacrificing the well-being and security of its citizens. We demand accountability and will not remain silent," Bajrami's response reads.
