The former Minister of Justice, Ylli Manjani, says that the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, should be arrested for his role in the Tirana incinerator.
In a post on social networks, Manjani writes that if the prosecutors want to apply the practice of arrests as they apply it to the high officials handcuffed for the incinerators until now, then Erion Veliaj does not have to make an exception.
"For professional reasons, I do not support arrests for show. The Bolshevik law of arrests does not help but destroys justice.
Without a doubt it is so. And I don't want to articulate this.
However, if Lefteri is arrested twice, Arbeni, who is not directly related, is required to be arrested as a family member and a bunch of officials are forgotten in custody, for the same reasons and for equality before the law, Erion Veliaj should be under arrest as well. At least he has acquired the legal duties of the Municipal Council and other municipalities of the Tirana district. He decided to spend 100 million Euros that he did not have in the municipality's budget.
Even Erion being in office seriously risks damaging the investigations. He has every opportunity to hide evidence and damage the investigation, being active in office, managing archives and interests. Add here the usual manipulation of public opinion.
None of those arrested so far is more dangerous than Erion Veliaj.
I repeat, if they want to apply the practice of arrests as they apply it to others, Erion should not be an exception. His exclusion from the investigation and arrest accuses the judiciary of unequal treatment," writes the former minister of LSI.
