The deputy of the Democratic Party, Ervin Salianji, has stated from the meeting held today in Has with citizens and democratic supporters that Prime Minister Edi Rama failed with the "ominous plan" to capture the opposition and that the latter is already united.
During his speech, Salianji stated that the democrats must show that they are a governing alternative for Albania in 2025 when the parliamentary elections will be held.
"Albania is in difficult times, as we are entering the last year of the third term of Edi Rames. You are political people and you know the reality well. Especially you are very clear about the difference between what you hear from the government's aggressive propaganda, as a great achievement, as a heavenly success, and what you see and live.
You can hear that Albania grew a lot on the big international stage, you see that the abandonment of citizens in basic needs, where the pensioner, the farmer, the student, the young professional needs to have by his side the help that politics and the executive provide, is evident.
We have a government that has left people to survive on their fate, since 24 hours a day it is focused only on projects and plans that, if you dig a little, turn out to be profit affairs. And they have created a suffocating climate, a fatalistic idea that this is how things are, there is nothing you can do about it.
And worse, you have nowhere to complain, nowhere to appeal. That in every direction, you will find an extended hand of Edi Rama. And this to some extent holds. He has closed the system, with all the powers under his arm, he is in charge. There was an even more sinister plan. But it didn't work. Only the opposition failed. He made every effort for years to make the Democratic Party one of the gears of the mechanism under his control.
He wanted to have a department of the establishment. He fought a lot for this and it brought a lot of damage. We spent time and energy in a battle between Vedi. But here we are today. The opposition escaped capture, we are united, and we are determined, with passion and unwavering. I am convinced that the great merit in this by no means small achievement belongs to the democrats, the centrists, those who have always benefited the least or the last, and who have suffered the most.
Democrats here in Has and everywhere in Albania, they were our guide, they showed us the way. And it was nothing else, just to leave the separations and be together. We didn't just save our honor, but we saved a great public asset, which is the Opposition, from being torn apart and destroyed. Imagine that in this situation where the country is, we had a DP that was coordinated by the government. And you saw that the project was, and was implemented.
We didn't allow it, you didn't allow it in the first place. But dear friends, this is just one step in this great 11-year-old folly that is being played with the country of our future. We don't have a day to waste, or to spend in idle euphoria. The time is now to take the next qualitative step, perhaps the most important.
Let us show that we are Albania's alternative in 2025. Among the many challenges the country is going through, let us prove that we are the solution. Amid skepticism and loss of faith in politics, let's prove that we can be trusted. With corruption installed as a norm, as a governing culture, let's manifest integrity and honesty. It is not a small test, but we can and we must succeed. With sacrifice, with placing great interest before our calculations, with daily dedication and in close contact with people. Nothing is impossible," said Salianji, among other things.
