Pedagogue Ermal Hasimja was one of the most talked about and controversial names among the opposition, as a potential candidate for the Tirana Municipality by-elections, which will be held on November 9.
Everyone expected opposition leader Sali Berisha to publicly express support for independent candidate Ermal Hasimja, but that did not happen. Berisha mentioned Florian Binaj, a name well known to the public.
On the show "Opinion", Hasimja accepts the opposition's position, adding that the competition no longer has any meaning for her.
However, he adds that he fully supports the candidate "who took his place", Florian Binaj.
"It is clear that the race makes no sense to me. I entered a process, which was clear that possible candidacies would be considered. The most normal thing that could happen is that the parties that entered these talks would choose a candidate, based on their legitimate right, based on their criteria, and of course one candidate would be chosen and the other candidates would have nothing to say, the only thing they could do is to then support the selected candidate, as long as he meets the conditions. There is no doubt about this.
I fully support Mr. Binaj, with great pleasure and I hope that he will have an excellent campaign and I hope that he will bring some kind of innovation to this depressive environment. Supporting independent candidates was an operation that seemed to be organized to increase attention to potential candidates. Imagine if the DP had issued a press statement and said that we are proposing this candidate who is independent, non-partisan, it would not have had the same effect," said Ermal Hasimja.
