The head of the State Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, when asked about the electoral system in Albania, said that he prefers the majoritarian system.
According to him, this system, with which the elections were held in 2001 and 2005, ensures stable government and pluralism for new parties.
"There is no good or bad electoral system. Given the political reality, I personally prefer the majoritarian system, but this does not mean that this is better for Albania. The system of 2001 and 2005 was better, it ensured a more stable government and pluralism of representation in the Assembly and of small parties that in the majoritarian system do not have the opportunity to get deputies," Celibashi said on the show "Log.".
The stance of the Chief State Election Commissioner comes at a time when the Parliament is expected to formalize the establishment of a Special Commission for Electoral Reform, but at least from public statements, none of the political parties aims to change the electoral system.
