The Complaints and Sanctions Commission (KAS) has decided to open a ballot box in the Vlora region, following a complaint filed by the coalition “Nisma Shqipëria Bëhet”, led by Adriatik Lapaj. The decision was taken this Thursday, at the regular meeting of the CEC, and marks the first precedent of opening ballot boxes from the May 11 elections to verify alleged irregularities.
According to the complaint of Lapaj's coalition, during the vote counting, ballots were found to be missing the relevant commission stamp, which casts doubt on their validity. KAS agreed to verify the contents of the box to clarify whether there were violations that may have affected the result for the subject in question.
The opening of the ballot box will take place on Monday, June 2, at the premises of the Central Election Commission. This is the first concrete case where a complaint by the new opposition, represented by Lapaj, produces a concrete institutional act in the electoral process after May 11.
Meanwhile, the KAS has completed the preliminary review of the three appeal requests of the Democratic Party for the Berat, Gjirokastër and Vlorë districts. The decision is that the administrative review will also include data on voting from abroad – another element that could affect the final result in these districts.
The opening of the ballot box in Vlora and the inclusion of the diaspora vote signal that the legal battle for the May 11 elections is still open – and that for some entities, the game is not over yet.
