Prime Minister Edi Rama today was asked by journalists about the arrest of Fredi Beleri and the threats that came from official Athens.
The head of the government said that the new justice must continue undisturbed with its task without any kind of interference.
He has also sent a message to Greece that as long as he is in charge of the government, he will not allow any interference in the matter.
Rama has expressed that he is very proud of what he has done so far with the justice reform and that there is no chance and place for threats.
"We had messages from the justice system, which I appreciated. We also had a situation, let's say inflamed, due to the problem with the justice of the mayor elected in Himare.
Our position has been, is and will be, that the new judiciary in Albania must do its duty undisturbed.
At this point, nothing is more important than the protection, in the same way as we have done in other cases, of peace, of the activity of the justice system.
No interference with justice from anywhere will find neither our support nor our understanding. We do not interfere in the justice system and we do not comment," he said.
But how does he respond to Greece's threats? "The justice reform in Albania is the biggest, the most difficult thing, the most unimaginable thing that happened to Albania until a few years ago.
This country has never had a justice that did not ask "who are you", but acted on anyone and for the first time individuals connected to the power in power.
I am very proud of what we have done. When it comes to individuals that I have not only known but also been close to on a personal level, I am not happy, but on the level of duty, I feel only proud.
All that being said, there is no chance, at least while I am here, that the pressure on the new justice will be brought to bear and work through threats or innuendo. There is no chance," said Rama.
