The Albanian government has officially reacted to Russia's recent statements, which warned diplomatic personnel and foreign citizens to leave Kiev ahead of possible attacks in the Ukrainian capital.
Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, considered this stance of Moscow as unacceptable and contrary to international norms that regulate diplomatic relations between states.
In a post published on the social network X, the Albanian chief diplomat stated that warnings to foreign embassies and representations cannot be considered diplomacy, but constitute a form of pressure and intimidation against diplomatic missions in Ukraine.
According to Hoxha, these statements represent another violation of international law and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the document that guarantees the protection and normal functioning of diplomatic missions in times of peace and conflict.
The minister stressed that Albania will not change its stance on the war in Ukraine and that the Albanian diplomatic mission will continue to remain in Kiev.
"Albania will not withdraw. We remain in Kiev. We stand firmly with Ukraine and will not be intimidated," Hoxha said in his public reaction.
In the statement, he also underlined that escalating the conflict with more attacks, war crimes or strikes against civilians and civilian infrastructure cannot bring a solution to the conflict.
According to the Albanian minister, the only way to end the war remains engagement in real and good-faith negotiations for peace.
Ferit Hoxha announced that this position was also communicated to the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Tirana during an official communication held on Thursday.
Albania's reaction comes at a time of heightened tension regarding the security situation in Ukraine and recent warnings by Russian authorities about possible attacks in Kiev.
