SPAK has today asked the Assembly for authorization to tighten the security measure, from 'compulsion to appear' to prison or house arrest' for former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Analyst Mentor Kikia said that this is the first security measure imposed on a high official of this level in Albania.
" He refused the judicial police at least 3 times and refused to go to the prosecutor's office. This story should have a solution. Berisha wanted the decision to go through the parliament, which did not happen, and now the prosecutor's office is asking the parliament to authorize to change the measure of arrest, in 'house arrest'. Justice had to explain whether everyone is equal before the law. For the first time we have an official of this level in Albania who will be tightened a security measure that will require 'house arrest' and that he is put in a security measure like this. The first former prime minister to be investigated for decisions made collegially. So far there has been no precedent for decisions made collegially by the council of ministers." - said Kikia.
The journalist claimed that the majority has the numbers to vote for the request of the prosecution, add here the fact that the groups within the Democratic Party are divided.
" This is an ethical issue. Now the majority has the votes that the prosecutor's request will be voted on. Other groups in the DP have also been added. There will be no surprises in this regard. The Parliament will vote on it. It is under investigation and not indictment ." - said Kikia.
