The Special Court of Appeal (GJKKO) has rejected the appeal of former President Ilir Meta for changing the security measure, leaving the measure of "prison arrest" in force.
This decision comes a day after the First Special Court for Corruption and Serious Crime (GJKKO) rejected Meta's request to terminate the security measure of imprisonment.
His lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, said that the court created a dangerous precedent with Mr. Meta, as according to him, the deadlines for detention have expired.
Carkani said that there is no risk that Ilir Meta will influence or tamper with evidence at this stage of the process, arguing that any security measures are now unjustified.
He accused the judicial system of a lack of not guilty verdicts and of turning courtrooms into "firing squads."
