Former MP, Ervin Salianji, in an interview with Report TV, was asked if he would run for the leadership of the Democratic Party in 2026.
Salianji dodged the question, saying that his ambition is for the DP to be strong and competitive enough to overthrow the government. The democrat further said that he will do everything to strengthen the party.
"I think it's time for everyone in the DP to retreat to their ambitions. My ambition, like that of every opposition member, is for the DP to be strong, competitive and to make it possible to change the government. We all need those with a public profile and contacts to find a way to achieve this. The DP must unite all political personalities. Basha? If it is, have you seen it these days...if it is. I'm saying all the personalities who are active, who have different opinions, who have contributed, who for one reason or another may be upset, dissatisfied or have different attitudes, to all unite. Everyone unites around the party. The other part that is necessary in the DP is opening up to profiles that have credibility," said Salianji.
But then, when he was "bullied" again about running, he said: "Personally, I am saying it and I will say it, I will do everything to make the DP strong. I am not alone in all directions. It is not a battle for personal interest, but to have a stronger and more competitive DP to change the government. I have no personal goal of having a function, even without a function I have a public voice."
