The Conference of Speakers has rejected the requests submitted by the parliamentary groups of the DP and PL for the establishment of Investigative Committees.
The opposition requested the establishment of two investigative commissions, "For the control of the legality of the actions of the Albanian Road Authority for the realization of investments in road infrastructure", as well as for the control of the legality of the functioning of the National Agency for the Information Society (AKSHI).
Both requests were rejected by the majority with the argument that the issues for which the establishment of Investigative Commissions is requested are being investigated by justice institutions.
This brought the reaction of the head of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, according to whom the argument that contracts are subject to justice and that there cannot be an investigative commission does not hold up.
"The Constitutional Court, in a 2014 decision, states that the fact that other constitutional bodies fulfill their duties cannot in any way serve as an argument to refuse the exercise of duties by Parliament.
We are not seeking to do the work of the prosecutor's office, but to verify contracts, identify problems, even regarding the way institutions function, and make legal proposals.
And I repeat, you have a constitutional obligation to establish investigative commissions. The only issue you can claim is the object, the formulation of the object. We are open to your proposal regarding the object, if you have one. But I did not hear that you have an alternative formulation , "said Bardhi.
The head of the DP Group further said that it is not called parliamentarianism when the opposition's demands are rejected out of political hatred.
" If the opposition's demands are rejected out of political hatred, this is not parliamentarianism. Therefore, I ask you, Speaker, what is the role of MPs, when you accept neither investigative committees, nor interpellations, nor motions with debate, nor amendments, nor laws?"

Tell us what our role is. Because you tell us "let's cooperate" and "let's be constructive," but when we do that, you tear everything down.
"You, Speaker, are the guarantor of the functioning of the Assembly. You have read us a speech that has touched us, while today I do not find a single issue that you, as Speaker, have defended for the opposition ," said Bardhi.
