Conference of Presidents

Despite Gazment Bardhi's request to take more time, the Conference of Speakers voted with the votes of the SP for the establishment of the Special Disinformation Commission.

The head of the Parliamentary Group of the SP, Bledi Çuçi, at the meeting of the Conference of Chairmen, spoke about the establishment of the Special Parliamentary Commission with a focus on coordinating and supervising all institutional efforts to combat disinformation and other forms of foreign interference in democratic processes in Albania.

" Referring to the agreement with the USA, to which Mrs. Tabaku referred, we have no obligations, but we take initiatives and bring it to the Parliament so that it becomes comprehensive.

The fact that we are late should not make us late any longer. The object of this Special Committee will enter at least the terms of 4 other parliamentary committees (Foreign Affairs, Laws, National Security and Education Committee) with a 1-year term because the field of action of this committee is very wide. Exactly, this commission will consider the implementation of the AMA law that Mrs. Açka mentioned. The Special Committee of the EP lasted more than two years and dealt with all the interventions in the EU countries. ”, declared Çuçi.

In the end, the establishment of the commission was approved only with the votes of the majority, while the opposition asked for more time.

A day ago, the leader of the socialist parliamentary group, Bledi Çuçi, said that this commission will be led by a personality within the SP, but did not mention his name.

It is learned that at the head of this commission is former deputy prime minister Erion Braçe or former Socialist prime minister Pandeli Majko.

Their names are expected to be discussed shortly in the second point of the presidents' conference.

From the opposition, Gazment Bardhi requested the postponement of the request of the SP for the establishment of the Special Commission for Disinformation as this is a sensitive issue.

'This issue is sensitive and should be handled with special care. We share the concern about the interference of non-partner third countries in all forms. However, it will be necessary for you to clarify the initiative, to inform us and the entire public about what you will do and what you are being asked for.', said Bardhi.

Even the MP Agron Gjekmarkaj has stated in the meeting that this is an attempt to displace the political discourse from the affairs of the government.

The MP said that this is an attempt to interfere with the freedom of the media and it is a move that follows the failure of the anti-defamation package.

"This is an attempt to displace political discourse from government affairs. But beyond that, this proposal is problematic. It comes as a second attempt to interfere with media freedom.

It follows the failure of the anti-defamation package, a package that was strongly opposed by internationals. Similar to what happened in Turkey, the strongest violation of the pillars of democracy took place over the word democracy. A great reflection and care is needed," he said.
